Who is Promoting a Healthier Africa?

Promoting a Healthier Africa (PAHA) is a private, nonprofit, community -based organization (NGO). It has a 501 (c)(3) status, that endeavors to promote health in rural Africa. PAHA believes that the water condition is unsafe in Africa,  housing condition is sub-standard, and women health needs to be improved especially in rural areas. The organization’s mission is to promote health in rural Africa, by providing access to clean potable water to all, improving on the housing standards and promoting women health to African villagers.

PAHA was formed in 2016 by four qualified members, who care about promoting health of low-income individuals on the continent of Africa. These individuals are multi-dimensional in education and employment construct. The members entail a Health Educator, Registered Nurse, Architect and constructor, and a local government leader. Each one plays a prominent role in the facilitation the project goal. The future plans for Promoting a Healthier Africa, are to implement similar program in various parts of Africa if we receive enough funding.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to promote health in the rural areas of Africa by improving on housing standards of low- income individuals and providing access to clean safe water to all. After assessing the challenges teenage girls face when they reach puberty and the infections postpartum mothers suffer after birth, we added another program.’The The dignity of our Girls and the Health of Postpartum Mothers Matters!’

Vision Statement

Our vision is to have communities with decent housing, access to clean water, improved women health and good hygienic conditions in rural Africa.

Dr. Jacqueline Edwards

Board Chairman

 

Dr. Edwards has the following education; B. S. Human/Social Work – MCNY; M. S. Administration – MCNY; Non-Profit, For-Profit & Public; D.B.A. Doctorate in Business Administration – AIU. She acts as a liaison between management and the Board; provides independent advice and counsel to the Executive Director; keeps abreast generally of the activities of the organization and its management.

Bernell B. Frank

Assistant Chair

 

Mr. Bernell Possesses the following qualification MBA-MCNY, B.S-  Sunny Empire State College AAS, Automotive Technology- Bronx Community College, Microsoft Certification MOSE, CISCO Certification, CCNE, Project Management Certification PMP. He is a member of the Board; he will Perform Chair responsibilities when the Chair cannot be available (see Chair Job Description); Reports to the Board’s Chairman; Works closely with other staff. He is part of the implementation and development team and offers transition plans and performs other responsibilities.

Jane Sekiwala

Board Secretary

 

Mrs. Jane Sekiwala formerly was a secretary – Foreign Exchange Control /Bank of Uganda.she will maintain records of the board and ensures effective management. She takes minutes of board meetings and ensures minutes’ distribution to each member subsequent to each meeting. She manages all legal documentation.

Ellen Fees

Board Treasurer

 

Mrs.Ellen Fees is the Assistant Principal, Organization, Health and Physical Education at Townsend Harris High School in Flushing New York. She is a member of the Board; she will manage the financial aspects of the organization. She will also present the annual budget to the board members for approval.

Craig Fees

Committee Chair

 

Mr. Fees has a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), Organizational Management: Leadership and Organizational-Walden University, Master’s degree, Organizational Leadership- Nyack College and B.A. Biblical Studies and Education- Wheaton College. Craig is a member of the Board. He will set a tone for the committee duties. He ensures that members have the proper information needed to carry out their duties and oversees the logistics of the committee’s operations. He works closely with the Executive Director and other staff as agreed to by the Chief Executive and he assigns work to the committee members and he also leads the committee’s annual evaluation.

Lisa Serrano

Board Member

 

Ms. Serrano education comprises of M.S.W –NYU School of Social Work and B.A. Urban Studies –Fordham University. Lisa is a member of the Board.

Our staff is comprised of several dedicated and very highly qualified individuals:

Sarah Hoffman

Executive Director and President

Mrs.Sarah Hoffman is a Health Educator Specialist and the founder of PAHA. She is responsible for directing the vision and mission of the organization to ensure its long-term success and covering the day to day functions so that it remains in health operations. Sarah holds MBA from Regent University School of Business and Leadership and a Bachelors of science in Health Education and Promotion from Herbert H. Lehman College.

Mrs. Maria Cuffe Communication Director

Communication Director

Maria education comprises of a Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Science from Drew University, also she holds a PreCollege Tutor Certificate from Kaplan Test Prep.

 

Mrs.Sarah L. Mulindwa

Program Director

 

Sarah is a registered nurse and is the PAHA international programs overseer and director.

 

Mr. Thomas Kairu

He is an Engineer- Makerere University, Uganda is responsible for all architecture work and housing construction.

 

 

Mr.Abel Lukwago

Operation Director

He is responsible for all water and housing operations.

 

 

Ms. Allen Nakintu

She is a local leader in Wakiso district and she is responsible for taking care of government policies and legal issues overseas.
